a portrait of my girls, once a week, every week in 2014
My parents live in Southern Alberta, surrounded by farmland and prairie landscape for as far as the eye can see. It’s so peaceful down here, due mostly to the lack of people and abundance of land.
But we drove almost two hours west to Waterton National Park where there are mountains and glaciers and rock cliffs. The mountains rise out of the prairies, catching the light and we all crane our necks to see.
We spent the day there- having a leisurely picnic lunch in full view of the mountains and marvelling at the mountain goats who trotted through town like it was their home turf.
My four year old’s dream came true when a mama bear and two cubs walked in front of our cars and she wanted to take the red fox home with us because ‘he was so beautiful, mummy!’ She and I went for a short hike with most of my brothers, sister and mum while the littlest girl napped with her daddy. We saw breathtaking waterfalls and wild strawberry flowers.
My littlest (who is also an introvert like her mama) was thrilled most when she could see all of her people, all together. She loved her purple ice-cream from her Papa and riding on the rental bike.
We drove home, sunburned and tired but refreshed from a day in the mountains. One of my favourite places to spend a day.
Are you a mountain-lover?
