How to Be Awesome (when you don’t feel like it)

I don’t always feel awesome. Some days I feel beat and it’s not even 8 am. I stayed up too late or was up fighting bad dreams and teething pains. Just getting dressed and getting my game face on is tiring. And then the daily house upkeep, those meals that don’t make themselves and most importantly those who share life with me. It all looks to me with expectation and I just want to hide under the fuzzy blankets in my big girl’s bed.

I don’t feel awesome. And yet I am. I have been given today and that is all I need to worry about. 

I can put laundry in the wash and whisper ‘booyah!’ because I have a healthy little girl whose bodily systems all work great. I can sweep the floor and say ‘hurrah!’ because I have little people who are still learning the fine art of eating. I can laugh out loud when I find a baby doll, book and leftover snack in a lower kitchen cupboard because that is the girls’ pretend house. I can stay in my sweats and ponytail until four pm, battling the tension between guilt and pleasure. I can do two workouts in a day because it’s Wednesday (or a Monday or a Thursday) and we all need the endorphin release.

I can glory in the laundry, the dishes, the meals- they all signify life and beauty.

I can be awesome even if I don’t feel like it because two little girls love to share their blankets with me and we read our favorite books. My husband peeks in, hears the giggles and all he sees is the love, not the mess. And my three year old says that I’m beautiful and she lives for my smile and laugh whether I’m wearing sweats and ponytail or a trendy  outfit. And that is awesome.

To you, on a Monday night curled up in sweats or work clothes, you are awesome. Even if the laundry still needs doing and there’s dishes left from breakfast. Look into the eyes of those with you and whisper a ‘hurrah!’ for sharing these moments together.

P.S. Our desktop computer got sick last week so there went my picture posts and  I went away on a personal retreat on the weekend so the rest of the posts just didn’t get posted. Thanks for being here today!

  1. So good to read this today. :-) There’s a storm and the power is out so I can’t shower or use the treadmill or work or anything, and that’s OK. :-) I’m going to rest this afternoon, and eat chocolate and read books and look at Pinterest on my phone and eat leftovers with Bear for dinner. :-)
