What We’re Into: 2.1.2013 Editon

Eating

Soups, soups and more soups. I love the process of making soup, the chopping and simmering and seasoning  and the warm aromas. I also love throwing the ingredients for soup in the slow cooker and having dinner basically made 6 hours later. The leftovers also make for great lunches and I can pretty much always count on the girls having several bowlfuls. It’s one way to get lots of veggies and nourishing broth into them while we wade through mid-winter colds.

Our favorites this week: Tom Kah Gai (there were no leftovers, we LOVE this soup), Lentil, Kale and Sausage (drizzled with garlic infused olive oil, need I say more?) and Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup.

Drinking

Lots of water and lots of coffee. There have been a lot of late nights this week and early-ish mornings so our resolution to drink coffee on the weekends has been modified. We did in fact bookend a day with coffee, not something we like to do often but is needed once in awhile.

Wearing

I sorted through the girls’ clothes this week. My three year old is finally growing out of her 2T clothes and is getting taller, almost daily it seems. She’s changing all the time and I love it. She very willingly gave her too small skinnies to her little sister, a sure sign of character growth as they were one of her favorite pants. My little 18 month, Khaira is still comfortably fitting into the clothes that Kilmeny wore when she was 12 and 13 months. I love it, I haven’t had to buy any new clothes despite the girls being born in totally different seasons.

All that rearranging of their dresser gave me inspiration to go through my clothes and figure out new pairings of clothes to create new outfits. I added shoes which tickled my little fashionista, Kilmeny, to no end.

Watching

What can I say? I love Downton Abbey, and it has been the perfect companion for the late evenings of practice that Jared has been putting in. My brain feels like mush by about 9 pm and I’ve been battling a fever/cold/headache so curling up with some tea and Downton has been the perfect antidote.

Being Inspired

This is a fun thing I started this week after wanting some new inspiration in the style department, you enter your weather, location and general style (trendy casual, profressional, trendy dressy) and you get an email with what to wear. It’s fun and gives me new ideas of how to wear what I already have. I tend to be trendy casual, if you wanted to know.

And another fashion inspired one, I love this blog for its realness. It’s called Together in Ten and has lots of great ideas for pulling something together in a hurry. Because I don’t have an hour to get ready in the morning.

I really appreciated the words Jessi from Naptime Diaries shared this week, what stood out to me was the question ‘what do you wish someone else was writing about?” And that’s maybe a key reason why I blog, to share the realness, the beauty and the hard bits.

What about you? Have you been sick? Are you totally into Downton Abbey? Tried any new recipes or new styles?

  1. I HAVE been sick, I thoroughly enjoy Downton Abbey, and today I made my fave pork roast with fennel crackling and tried Brioche studded with dark chocolate. Robbie can’t get enough of either of them. :-) Yum!! My style? Out in public – sundress and sandals, all day, every day. :-) On the farm? Wellies and whatever odd bits of Robbie’s oversized shirts and trousers I can find. :-)
