What We’re Into: 1.25.13 Edition

A little look back on the week or so. I saw this idea on a blog, somewhere in blog-land and stashed it away for the future. The future is now and I’m sharing bits of what we’re into this week.

Eating

We’re finishing up our third full week of no wheat and no refined sugar. We’re doing this cleanse for about a month. I have lots more to share on the whole experience, the whys and the hows but for now I’ll just share a couple recipes we’ve really enjoyed. It’s been a great experience for us and really kick-started the second semester. We haven’t changed our diet or menus that much but enough to make mealtimes creative.

We’ve been eating lots of quinoa and rice, snacking on apples(bought from the farm just down the road!) and this amazing recipe.

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Treats

I was slightly skeptical at first but one bite convinced me. I love the decadent feel that coconut oil gives and yet it is so good for you. I’ll be making this again (and again). We’ve also eaten a lot of um, interesting recipes that I would want to tweak before sharing here.

Drinking

Lots of water and lots of tea. I’m aiming to drink four mason jars of water a day, if I don’t fill up the jar I forget to drink. So we all drink out of jars and feel all hip and trendy.

Wearing

Layers. Lots of layers. Unless you’re Kilmeny, she’s content in leggings and a sparkly t-shirt 365 days a year. I layer up socks and shirts and sweaters on all of us when we go out. It’s a damp cold here in Nova Scotia and when the wind blows, it’s just cold.  See also: drinking: lots of tea.

Listening

The Les Miserables soundtrack. Obviously. We have plans to see it again whenever our schedule and the babysitter’s schedule aligns, provided it’s still in theatres.

Reading

See Wednesday’s post for what the girls are reading. I just finished What Alice Forgot and am just starting Jen Hatmaker’s 7. Both totally different from each other but very poignant nonetheless. Jared is full on into school so that means mostly books on music, theory and history but with the occasional foray into Total Truth by Nancy Pearcy.

Being Inspired

some stuff that’s stuck with me through the week

Not only is this post filled with beautiful, sun-drenched pictures, the words are lovely and true.

Rambling Tart: Sunlit Paths in Italy and Thoughts on Love

I’ll be joining a few weeks into the new year but I’m excited about having some photography goals and a definite record of the girls over the year.

Che and Fidel: the 52 Project

I love to create. I call myself an artist and sometimes I mourn that I don’t have time to just create. This reminder was very timely, a reminder of what creating looks like and a dose of inspiration.

  1. Life is Art – ohhhhh, how I needed that today! :-) I loved reading about how your life is going, the projects you’re tackling, the things you’re reading. We finally got rain this weekend and it’s cool and stormy and wonderful – just what I needed. :-) Hope to write you a newsy letter soon. XOXO
